How to sample and keep 100% rights. Artificial intelligence is getting better daily. Artificial intelligence is making it harder to sample without losing rights to your music.  Using these methods will give you unlimited source of sounds

  1. Sample your old work
  2. Create music in the style you love to sample from and sample that
  3. Hire a session player
  4. Record yourself doodling without intent

Sampling: The Ultimate Form of Sound Creation

When it comes to creating sound, companies love to sell us on the latest and greatest synthesizers and sound engines. And don't get me wrong – I love synthesizers just as much as anyone else, if not more. But there's one method of sound creation that I think often gets overlooked: sampling.

Sampling is the process of recording and manipulating real-world sounds, and it has been used in music production for decades. From the early days of hip-hop, where producers would sample old funk and soul records to create new beats, to modern electronic music, where producers use sampling to create complex, layered textures, sampling has been a cornerstone of many genres of music.

But sampling is more than just a way to create beats and textures. It's the ultimate form of sound creation, because it allows you to create any sound you want, and to manipulate that sound in ways that are impossible with other types of synthesis.

Take, for example, the sound of a bell. With a traditional synthesizer, you might be able to create a decent bell sound, but it would never sound quite like a real bell. But with sampling, you can record the sound of a bell, and then manipulate that sound in ways that are impossible with a traditional synthesizer. You can stretch it, pitch it, reverse it, chop it up into little pieces and rearrange them in any order you want. You can add effects like reverb and delay to create a sense of space and depth. And when you're done, you'll have a bell sound that is truly your own.

The best part about sampling is that it's not expensive. You don't need to shell out thousands of dollars for a fancy synthesizer – all you need is a sampler and some source material. And there are no limits to what you can create. If your sampler only has 2 layers, you can resample those 2 layers and add a layer to that. You can layer sounds on top of each other to create complex, evolving textures. You can take a single sample and use it to create an entire track.

But perhaps the most exciting thing about sampling is the places it can take you. When you set out to sample a sound, you never know where it might lead you. You might sample a bell and end up with a pad. You might sample a bird chirping and end up with a percussion loop. You might sample the sound of a car engine and end up with a bassline. Sampling is a challenging, but ultimately satisfying experience, because it allows you to create sounds that are truly your own.

So the next time you're looking for a new sound to add to your productions, don't overlook sampling. It may just be the ultimate form of sound creation.

How Being Healthy Can Improve Your Music

How Being Healthy Can Improve Your Music

As a musician, you know that creating great music requires both talent and hard work. But did you know that being healthy can also have a significant impact on your music? Here are some ways in which taking care of your body and mind can help you make better music:

Exercise

Regular exercise can have numerous benefits for your music. Firstly, it can improve your overall physical health, which can help you have more energy and stamina during performances or recording sessions. Secondly, exercise can also improve your mood and reduce stress, which can help you be more focused and creative. Finally, if you play an instrument that requires physical dexterity (such as guitar or piano), exercising can help you develop and maintain the necessary motor skills.

Eating the Right Foods

Eating a healthy and balanced diet can also have a positive impact on your music. Firstly, it can help you maintain a healthy weight, which can reduce the risk of physical health problems that could interfere with your music. Secondly, certain foods (such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains) contain nutrients that can improve brain function and reduce inflammation, which can improve your overall cognitive abilities and creativity.

Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for your body and mind to function properly, and it is especially important for musicians who need to be alert and focused during performances or recording sessions. Lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating, all of which can negatively impact your music. Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night, and try to establish a regular sleep schedule.

Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool for reducing stress and improving mental clarity, both of which can be beneficial for musicians. By practicing meditation regularly, you can learn to quiet your mind and focus on the present moment, which can help you be more mindful and creative in your music.

Imagining Yourself Making Incredible Music

Visualization is a technique used by many successful musicians to improve their performance. By imagining yourself playing or singing at your best, you can help train your brain to achieve that level of performance. Spend a few minutes each day visualizing yourself making incredible music, and try to feel the emotions that come with that experience.

Stretching Before the Recording Session

If you're a musician who spends a lot of time sitting or standing in one position (such as a guitarist or drummer), stretching before a recording session can help you avoid muscle strain and injury. Take a few minutes to stretch your arms, wrists, and back before you start playing.

Telling Yourself You Are Great and Something Magical Going to Happen

Positive self-talk can be a powerful motivator for musicians. By telling yourself that you are great and that something magical is going to happen during your performance or recording session, you can help build confidence and reduce anxiety. Try repeating positive affirmations to yourself before and during your music-making.

In conclusion, being healthy can have numerous benefits for musicians, including improved physical health, reduced stress, and increased creativity. By incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine, you can help ensure that you are able to make the best music

Why I Make Music: It's All About the Experience

Why I Make Music: It's All About the Experience

For me, making music is all about the experience. It's not about being the fastest or the most technically skilled producer out there. It's about giving up a piece of my life to create art and express myself in a unique way. And that's why I find it weird to be overly concerned about another man's tool or software.

Sure, technology can make the process of making music easier and more efficient. But in my opinion, it shouldn't be the main focus. For example, I hate clicking a mouse to put in notes. It feels disconnected from the music-making process and has no feeling to it. That's why I prefer using hardware and dedicated audio recorders like the Roland VS-2480.

The VS-2480 is a computer-based recorder that has most of what you need depending on your skill set and needs. It's not the most cutting-edge piece of equipment, but it gets the job done and allows me to focus on the music-making process itself. I can plug in my instruments, record tracks, and mix everything together in a way that feels natural and intuitive.

At the end of the day, making music should be fun and fulfilling. It's not about being perfect or having the latest gear. It's about finding a way to express yourself and connect with others through your art. And for me, the VS-2480 helps me do just that.

So if you're someone who's just starting out or looking for a more hands-on approach to music-making, I highly recommend giving hardware-based recording a try. It might take a little more time and effort, but the end result is well worth it. And who knows? You might just discover a new level of joy and creativity in the process.

Buying synthesizers as an investment

Buying synthesizers can be a decent way to invest/save. If I want to save $250. Instead of throwing it in the bank. Buy a synthesizer for a steal of a price. I bought a waldorf blofeld module for $150. Casio CZ 3000 for $100 2 years ago. Didn't "need" them, nor was I looking for them. Instead of letting $250 lose money in the bank, I bought items that were guaranteed to sell at a profit while enjoying them. Even if I never really use them much, it's better than the bank.

Friends jealous of your music

Unfortunately some people will look at your success as their failure. I played a song at a music producer's studio infront of his rapper clients. His clients loved the beat. He said I should add this & that. Among other things to improve the beat. In the end I heard him humming the melody as of he was trying to memorize it 😆. People who are insecure will do things like this. Keep your head down and grind it out.

Struggling to create music that is by the book or crazy.

Imagine the first person to scratch a record. I bet people said it's against the rules. Or the first to hear jimi Hendricks. Or the first metal artist to scream in the mic. No matter how weird it is. If you like it. There are weirdos just like you out there

Making music is my passion but i'm overwhelmed by the amount of choices of gear.

Start small and cheap. Work your way up. As your skills sharpen. The need for new gear will happen naturally. At the end of it less is more. My studio is full of gear but only uses a small percentage at any given time. Take your time and enjoy the journey.

Where should I market and sell beats?

Do market research. Figure out who your listeners/fans/followers. People can give ideas all day long but it's a waste of time if you don't know the market. It's not as obvious who they are as you may think.

How to stay focus in the music studio

Take breaks. Taking a short walk will rest your brain. Gets the blood flowing.  Clear your mind. Allowing new ideas to form. Kinda like defragmenting your brain. When you on a break take deep breaths and focus on that.  Allow your to thing about nothing.  Maybe hard to do and will take practice.
